Damo Suzuki

In 1973 metaphysical transporter and singer DAMO SUZUKI left the legendary experimental rock band CAN, to which he gave his voice and energy on some of the bands most ground breaking music albums and eclectic live shows. Going on pilgrimage and a journey for mystic exploration that still lasts on until today, Mr. Suzuki then started his own live music project: The DAMO SUZUKI NETWORK, traveling the world to perform completely improvised live shows together with primarily young and unknown musicians from local psychedelic underground scenes. – https://www.damosuzuki.com/
Sadly we lost Damo Suzuki on February 9, 2024. I very much regret that I never got to see him live. Looking for video of times he played Philadelphia I’m even more upset that I never made it out. I found a couple of his shows here one with both Bardo Pond and Stinking Lizaveta ( I just noticed both videos have the same date either that was a very busy day for Damo or one has the wrong date). The Bardo Pond set is also available as an audio download from archives.org. I’ve thrown in some other things I found including an amazing Can documentary from 1972.

Boneheads – BunnyDrums

Boneheads

The Boneheads, who were part of the 70’s Philadelphia punk/new wave scene, along with the Sic Kidz, Stickmen, Warm Jets, Autistics, King of Siam, Pure Hell, and others. They played regularly at the Hot Club in Philly, and New York; including CBGBs, Max’s Kansas City and Tier 3. They opened shows for Richard Hell and the Voidoids, B-52’s, Wreckless Eric, The Lurkers, Mission of Burma, Nico, The Feelies, Madness, Necessaries (Chris Spedding), and others. In the summer of 1979, the band entered Starr Recording Studio in Philadelphia, and recorded 4 songs; ‘New Jersey‘, ‘Surfing UFO‘, ‘Adam & Eve‘ and ‘Yesterday‘. Unfortunately, the masters were lost and the tracks never released. Luckily, a cassette of the original recordings was recently discovered. The Boneheads disbanded shortly after morphing into the prolific Philly band, Bunnydrums.

Bunnydrums

Bunnydrums was a highly innovative and influential band that pushed the boundaries of post-punk music. Their unique sound, experimental approach, and introspective lyrics set them apart from their contemporaries. While they may not have achieved mainstream success during their active years, their impact on the alternative music scene cannot be overlooked. Bunnydrums’ legacy lives on through their groundbreaking music and the influence they had on future generations of musicians. To Reptile is a Live 1984 from Unitas Wageningen, Netherlands LP

S-21

Philly five-piece S-21 made politically-charged punk rock 2015 – 2017
S-21 was Cella (Fugitive Family), Brian (Fugitive Family), Nneka, Tiff (Haldol) and Cassidy (Blank Spell, Cape Of Bats, Destructos).
My friend Bret gave me the files from their live set on WFMU – but I found FMU had already posted it on the freemusicarchive (see link to it below). So, instead I pieced together everything I could find for S-21 so here are their recordings and some live videos for YouTube.

Psychic TV – Live

Psychic TV bargain with Genesis P-Orridge (RIP) and Alex Fergusson (Alternative TV) in 1981 after the break-up of Throbbing Gristle. After they released 17 albums with Allegory and Self (1988) P-Orridge became interested in the burgeoning acid house and techno movements. Alex Fergusson left soon after and was replaced by techno artist Fred Giannelli, They embarked on a long tour of the US and UK in 1988, Europe in 1989 and another long tour of the United States in 1990. These two live tapes where from that tour. (Thanks for the files Don) You can find their music at these two bandcamp sites https://psychictv.bandcamp.com/ & https://psychictv-ptv3.bandcamp.com/

Punkin’Pie Hubbub 1990

What is the Punkin’Pie Hubbub? We still don’t know! But it has something to do with carting a bunch of city slickers through a small town main street, with screeching guitars and freaked-out antics aboard some approximation of a float.

Shot in a variety of formats including 16mm color film, Simon Nagle and I created and recorded this event for a documentary film course at Temple in 1990.

Look for Richard Fravel, Arthur DiFuria, Andrew Clees and Noel Babineau of the Uptown Bones. Also Eric DeJesus, Elizabeth Duby, Tom Miller, Jim Reed, Joe David, and an entourage of Hubbub followers and fans.

Happy Halloween! Enjoy.
