Big Dipper – Live JC Dobbs

Big Dipper’s backstory is about as common as 4/4 time: First, they built a fierce local following, recorded some albums on an indie label and toured like mad. Second, they signed with a major label and cut a heavily produced LP that was a dramatic departure from their original sound. Third, the disc fell short – MMONE, the Music Museum of New England

Two show tapes from JC Dobbs (and some video I found on Youtube) from the end of 1989 and beginning of 1989. Thanks for the tapes Don Sheluga

Volcano Suns – Live

Volcano Suns were founded in Boston in 1983 by former Mission of Burma drummer Peter Prescott. In 1985, the band, with Jon Williams on guitar and Jeff Weigand on bass, released their debut album, The Bright Orange Years, and followed it up a year later with another classic, All-Night Lotus Party. Both albums were originally released on Homestead Records.
2 live tapes from Philly from the late 80’s Arch Street Empire and Khyber Pass. (Thanks for the Live tapes Don Sheluga) Not sure if I was at these particular shows or not – Volcano Suns played a lot in Philly and I think one time I saw them at Swarthmore College. They were always a great band to see live. I included the live tape they released on bandcamp from City Gardens. Although City Gardens was never my favorite place this show was amazing – Squirrel Bait, Volcano Suns, Agent Orange and the Descendants.

Old Pain(t): Live at City Gardens

Jeff Wiegand of the band offered some background on the release:
This show was recorded at City Gardens in New Jersey during July of ’86. We had just finished up the final mixing of All-Night Lotus Party in June and went back out on the road for a bit.
The original cassette tape was restored by Bob Weston and Jon Williams. Bob tells me the whiz-bang technical term for this is “audio restoration.” Whatever it might be called, they did a great job.

SS Decontrol – Buff Hall, Camden 11-20-82

Happy Belated Buff Hall Day (11-20) to all the people lucky enough to have been at that show. I saw lots of fb posts about the anniversary of that show and since I recently got these files (Thanks Brett) I wanted to get this up as soon as I could. So here they are- Boston’s SSD (Society System Decontrol) Live at the famously insane Buff Hall show in Camden. It was an amazing lineup – Minor Threat, SS Decontrol, Agnostic Front, along with Crib Death and F.O.D. from Philly. Added to all that it was F.O.D.’s first show ever. It was before my time in Philly and big of my list of shows I regret not being at. Scroll down for links to some great books with first hand stories from the show.
