Amazing Thrill Show

Formed In July: 1990, AMAZING THRILL SHOW was based in Philadelphia, PA. The band has performed regularly at Philadelphia clubs and venues throughout the Middle Atlantic states.

Recording sessions at Trackmaster Audio (Buffalo, NY) :
Watermusic (Hoboken, NJ), Sigma Sound (Philadelphia), and Graphic Sound Studios (Ringoes, NJ) resulted in the band’s first
release, a self-titled cassette on their own FAKIR RECORDS label in April 1992.
Two of the cassette’s tracks were produced by Robbie Goo, bassist for Warner Bros. recording artists The Goo Goo Dolls.
Then they released two 7 inches in 1992, a split 7inch with the band Crankcase, in 1994 plus a Not One Cent Cassette in 95. Their full length cd – Gigantopithecus was released in 1996. Also have a bunch of 4 track recordings, Live and Rehearsal recordings. (all below)

Plus here are some pdfs compiling the Lyrics and Press Releases.

I would like to send a big thank you to Peter Helfrich & Nicholas Mastropole for compiling and sending me all of this info, photos, music, lyrics etc for this band. It is amazing how much he sent me for this post. THANKS

LINE UP:
Peter Helfrich – vocals, bass
David Anderson – guitars, keys, backing vocals
Jeff Werner (Strapping Field Hands, Crankcase, Vic Logic, Confusion Visits) – drums
Later
Chris Burke – drums, percussion

Trivia from Peter:
“In 1988, two college roommates and I road-tripped to Minnesota, where they were checking out schools with programs they were considering for future studies. Along the way, we stopped for gas at a rural country store in Wisconsin. Making conversation, we asked an old woman at the cash register if there was anything fun to do around those parts. She suggested that we visit the Wisconsin Dells and see Tommy Bartlett’s “amazing thrill show” as she called it. We asked who Tommy Bartlett was and laughed when she replied, “He’s a water-skiing clown!”

My roommate Jon ended up going to the University of Minnesota and later sent me a postcard of Tommy Bartlett in full water-skiing clown regalia. I hung it on the wall of our basement practice space at 938 South Street in Philadelphia, and later it provided the inspiration we needed when brainstorming band names.

Ironically, each year, the Philadelphia police department’s motorcycle division would stage a benefit event they called their “Thrill Show,” which benefited widows and children of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. So each year there would be posters all over the city advertising “Thrill Show” in huge letters that had nothing to do with us at all!”
