Deadspot

Deadspot were in my opinion the best of the Philly Metal crossover bands. They definitely had a more metalish sound but retained punk/hardcore ethos. For the demo tape the bass player was Richard Birch who was also the guitarist for Decontrol. One of the Deadspot songs from their tape was on the Philly comp: Disc Pan Hands. Deadspot’s line up featured Larry Horn (listed as The Kid) on drums, Mike Illes on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Paul Juestrich on lead guitar and Larry Leifheit on bass. Besides the Demo Tape I have included their first album Adios Dude and the 7 inch Built-In Pain.
Their 2nd album Built in Pain LP is still available to buy.
I’ve also included a couple of videos I put up on YouTube from Lenny Crunch (RIP) & flyers.

Thanks for the tape files Brett Noise Addiction II

McRad

 Dominant Force

I was given a few photos of McRad to put up so I originally was going to put up the videos (see below) and then add the Dormant Force EP but searching I found that “Dominant Force” & “Absence of Sanity” plus a few other tracks are combined on the Lion Pure 2LP available on bandcamp. So, instead here are a couple of Crunch videos, the new-old  photos and flyers.

Three Foot Acid

Three Foot Acid with Freddie

Three Foot Acid were a short lived band from Philadelphia that featured the former Serial Killers singer Paul Bearer. They recorded one demo before exiting the stage. The sound for both of these shows was copied from old video tapes. They are both audience recordings and the sound quality is good.
Check out Paul’s interview on Loud Fast Philly
Thanks to Pete for giving me a copy of the Demo Tape – check out his site Sounds of Tomorrow

Head Cheese Booklet

Head Cheese 7"

Head Cheese was a post-punk band from the early 80s. While attending University of the Arts Susan Ottaviano meet Jade Lee and they formed a band with their friend Celeste Ries. They recorded one 7″ at  Third Story recording studio. I don’t have mp3’s of that 7 inch so instead I’ve included YouTube videos for the three songs. What i do have is a booklet that they put out – to be honest I am not 100% sure I put the pages in the right order but please check it out.
Head Cheese Booklet

The video for Jungle Jam was shot as a film project around Philly

Susan Ottaviano (who later went on to New Wave stardom in Book of Love) on the making of her Philly band Head Cheese’s single ‘Jungle Jam’ from 1982:

We recorded “Jungle Jam” at Third Story music, an 8 track studio in Philadelphia, in 1981. It was produced by David Javelosa, who we met at the East Side Club. He was performing with his group Los Microwaves at the time. The ‘Jungle Jam’ video was filmed in and around Philly and is truly a love story to the city. There are scenes on Broad Street, the gargoyles in City Hall, a basement on League street and a pig’s head from the Italian Market. The Jungle Jam video has just recently been posted on YouTube. One of the original directors of that video even works for Pixar now. He said that he had more fun on our movie than he does today. You should check it out. It’s pretty funny.”

Pass The Elixer Compilation

Tape cover

Pass the Elixer cassette tape comp put out by Freedom is Cancer Zine in 1987
Description of the comp:
Like a lot of people in the 1980s me and some of my friends made a fanzine. From 1985 until 1987 we printed 10 issues. For issue 9 we made a compilation tape with 90 minutes of solid Punk. Back then, because of different influences and ideas there was a diversity of sounds. And while all these bands are rooted in Punk none of them sound the same. We made our band choices to emphasize that diversity. The most well known band here is Disorder and the most obscure is P.K.G. from Torrence California who only recorded one 5-song demo before exiting. Each band has a full page in the zine. Sound quality is very good.
