Bad Brains – Elks Center Philadelphia

CrunchI have been trying to track down when this show happened – It’s not the same show as this 81 video which was the Bad Brains first time in Philly –
Then from According to Informed Sources…  it looks like the next time Bad Brains played was at Elks Center in January 82. So, that might be the show – Bad Brains second show in Philly??
If anyone has any more info, flyer or photos Please send them to me – for now here ‘s the audio.

Philly Hardcore 1981-1986 Part 1

This post was originally on Noise Addiction blog – I have re-posted it (with a few changes) – Check out more Noise Addiction posts at Noise Addiction 2

In the annals of Hardcore Punk history Philadelphia usually gets the short end of the stick but this was my scene and I can tell you it was one of the best in the country at that time. Being located between New York City and Washington DC made it easy for most touring bands to stop there and most of them did. It was a fun and friendly scene. Problem is most of the Philly bands never toured or released anything more than a 7″ though most of them did record an album. All these bands were fun to see live. Autistic Behavior recorded 10 songs in a studio. Six were supposed to be released on an ep, 2 were supposed to be on the never released comp LP being put together by Bad Brains but only two songs ended up being released on the Philly Hardcore comp. Get Off My Back. Crib Death were one of the Philly bands (along with F.O.D.) that opened the legendary Minor Threat show at Buff Hall in Camden NJ. Because there were other bands named Crib Death they changed their name to Blunder Boys – name taken from a Three Stooges film. They split when their singer started a family and their drummer became the bass player for F.O.D. Decontrol started in 1980 but didn’t release their first record until 1985 possibly due to a continuously revolving line up. In those 5 years they developed and created their own style which some liked and others hated. I loves it! Homo Picnic formed out of the ashes of Kremlin Korps and Sudden Impact. In the middle of 1985 their singer left and they kept the line up to a three piece and changed to a more Metal influenced sound. In 1986 they released an LP that had a few songs from the original line up but mostly new songs. Informed Sources were one of the earlier bands that started in 1981. In mid 1982 they changed singers. They recorded some demos with the original singer and a full album with the second singer but only two songs were ever released on the Get Off My Back comp. LP.

I wanted to get this up today since TSOL is opening for the Damned tonight at the TLA. They opened for Flag last year and were really good so I’m looking forward to seeing them again.
I will put up more info about this show later. Besides the songs from the show there is a great interview with Jack Grisham by Lenny Crunch and others, with a lot of info about the early days of TSOL.

Dead Kennedys – Rutgers Camden NJ – April 20, 1985

Crunch Productions show with the Dead Kennedys from Rutgers Camden on April 20, 1985. Another show from within a year of my moving to Philly but at least I got to see them later at Blue Horizon. What a great lineup this show had – opening for the Dk’s was Articles of Faith, COC, Decontrol & FOD. At the time the largest independent punk show in the area Rutgers put the total attendance at 3,100.
Really Huge THANKS to Lenny Crunch for letting me transfer this video and put it up.

Die Kreuzen – Number Three Videos

I always thought that The Mighty Die Kreuzen were Heavier than Black Sabbath & More Fierce than Minor Threat. When you were at one of their shows & they started to play, Your Soul was lifted Upward, Your Arms Raised & Your Whole Entire Body Swayed with the Intensity of a Tornado Swirling about & taking Whoever got in your Way with You into the Frenzied Pits of _______ .

When they played, it wasn’t a hardcore show, it wasn’t a rock concert, It was a Gathering of the DK Family to groove & support these Incredible Musicians, Friends & Brothers from the beer capital Milwaukee and we did gather. In Philadelphia, DC, NY, Atlantic City, Camden, You might think Deadheads were loyal but Die Kreuzen drew crowds who traveled thru whatever elements because we had to be there…

In July 1988 the band released Century Days & this song entitled Number Three was filmed live at J C Dobbs in Philadelphia. It was filmed & edited by the West Side Club. “From this view my thoughts are all so clear/ I’ll always be right here away from you” And now Number Three…… – Lenny Crunch

Jesus Lizard – 12/10/91 Khyber Philadelphia

Jesus Lizard from the Khyber December 10, 1991. Late 80’s into the early 90’s it seemed like they played the Khyber at least twice a year. I have no idea how many of those shows I made but probably almost all of them. Kind of bummed I didn’t make their reunion show a few years ago. Jesus Lizard was vocalist David Yow, bassist David Wm. Sims (Both from Scratch Acid), guitarist Duane Denison (Cargo Cult) and drummer Mac McNeilly
