Did the Fat Albert gang know that Mothra raided their closets? First, A Pixel Vision video of Mothra’s Part of A Note by Michael O’Reilly. Then a Mothra show at the Khyber. In the last two videos Mothra brought up some special guests – The late Wayne Hamilton (of Vibrolux, Rockula, Suffacox) and Mark Lux of at that time Temple of Bon Matin. – Thanks to Mark Lux for the tapes.

Mothra – Part of A Note Video by Michael O’Reilly
Mothra – Live from the Khyber (with Mark Lux & Wayne Hamilton)
Two Temple of Bon Matin shows from the Khyber. One is the Siltbreeze show from 08/07/1993 where they opened for Strapping Field Hands, Mike Rep, Guided By Voices & V3. The other is probably from around the same time. Both are with the Thunder Feedback Confusion lineup of Mark Lux on Bass, Trevor Dixon on Guitar and Ed Wilcox on Drums and vocals. The Siltbreeze video was shot by Rich – Thanks to Mark Lux for the tapes.
Video from the first Guided By Voices show in Philadelphia. It was a Siltbreeze night at the Khyber with Temple of Bon Matin, Strapping Field Hands, Mike Rep, GBV and headlining was V3. I’ll put up the video from the other bands as I get it done. GBV along with Pavement where the two bands from the early 90’s that I thought had a really unique sound that I was really into. From Wikipedia – New York City and Philadelphia were host to Guided by Voices’ return to the live stage (and first shows outside of Ohio) in 1993. At this time, the always-fluid Guided by Voices lineup coalesced around the core of Pollard, guitarists Tobin Sprout and Mitch Mitchell (not to be confused with Jimi Hendrix’s drummer), bassist Dan Toohey, and drummer Kevin Fennell. Sprout, who was briefly featured in an early-’80s version of the band, had re-joined circa Propeller and soon became Pollard’s primary musical foil, in addition to contributing several of his own songs to the band’s catalog.
The video was shot by Rich – Thanks to Mark Lux for the tape.
I saw that Dan Treacy who basically is the Television Personalities was in a coma see the article I remembered I had a live tape of them from the Khyber. I haven’t been able to find any updates on his health but hopefully Dan will pull through. I think the tape is from April 9th 1992 but I’m not sure. According to Dan Treacy’s web site Mad Scene opened up for them that night and I also have a live tape of Mad Scene from the Khyber. For all things Television Personalities check out A Day in Heaven site.
Beat Happening and two Unrest songs from a show at Maxwell’s – 1991. I’m not sure why I only tapped two Unrest songs my guess is we either got there late or I only had one tape with me. I believe this was the only time I saw Beat Happening – I’m not sure if they ever played Philly (or maybe if they did I just missed them.) Sorry I didn’t have time to figure out the Unrest song titles – if anyone knows please add a comment. (Plus the one Beat Happening title I couldn’t figure out.
Decontrol live video from the West Side Club. They opened for Scream which is also up on the site. This is the last of the Decontrol video and the last of the 80’s Philly bands video that I got from Pete. One last plug if you haven’t yet go download Songs from the Gut The Complete Collection. Also, if your on Facebook go to their page and “like” the page Below the videos are the audio tracks. As usual there were a couple of songs I wasn’t sure of the titles but hopefully I’ll get some help again and I’ll update the post. Thanks again to Pete at Sounds of Tomorrow. for the beta tapes
The tape of this show has no date on it – it just says Sebadoh & Khyber. So, I’m not really sure when it is from. My best guess would be around 1992 – 1994. I’m pretty sure this is the Sebadoh with Lou, Jason and Eric although I could be wrong. My clues are it is not the Kyhber show where the band had a fight on stage and Lou left. Also, the songs are all from up to Bubble and Scrape.
For more on Sebadoh go to http://sebadoh.com.
Just put updates to the song titles Thanks for the comments. Sorry you’ll have to rename the mp3 files yourself.
Toxic Reasons live video from Elk’s Lodge in Atlantic City from July 20th 1985. The show was Toxic Reasons, Decontrol & Nobody’s Favorite. This is later then the Love Hall video I put up before. More songs from Kill By Remote Control & Within These Walls. For more Toxic Reasons info go to this site.
Seam bio from Touch & Go site: Seam began as a three-piece in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Although Seam’s “pedigree” included Bitch Magnet and Superchunk, Seam’s reticent melodicism and subtly moving guitar washes occupy a realm quite different than the illustrious pasts of Seam’s members might suggest. Seam released their first single Days of Thunder on Homestead Records in October of 1990, and their second single Granny 9X on Merge Records in early ’92. The band released their first full-length, Headsparks, on Homestead in 1992. After a move to Chicago, Seam also moved to Touch and Go for the release of an EP and three full-length albums, the last being The Pace Is Glacial in 1998. This is a live set from the Khyber from June 25th 1992. They were the headliner with CakeKitchen opening up for them. A couple of tracks from Kernal but mostly from Headsparks and the early 7″s. For more on Seam go to the Touch & Go Site. Also, check out Sooyoung Park’s current band Ee at Facebook
CakeKitchen is Graeme Jefferies with various other musicians. Graeme had been in Nocturnal Projections and This Kind of Punishment with his brother Peter Jefferies. I’m not 100% sure but judging by the time frame it was probably Graeme with bassist Rachael King and drummer Robert Key. This show was on June 25, 1992 at the Khyber opening for Seam. Lots of tracks off the World of Sand album and the earlier Time Flowing Backwards album. Greame is still putting out releases – the latest is Kangaroos In My Top Paddock. For more on Cakekitchen (including buying cd’s directly from the band) check out the Cakekitchen Facebook Page.
To the best of my knowledge all of the music links are for recordings that are out of print but if you enjoy what you hear, buy other records and support the artist(s) and/or labels: if you don't approve of having your material displayed and would like to have it down...
