Void – Live Videos From 1984

DC’s Void Live video Feb. 18th & 25th 1984. The video from the 18th is from the CEC in philly. The video from the 25th is from Rock Hotel in NYC. (Thanks Chris for the info and flyer). So, if anyone knows where this is from please let me know. The flyer I put up with it is from an older Love Hall show. The only Void stuff I knew about was the split with Faith. But this is later Void when they were one of the earlier hardcore bands to add metal influences. Allot of people compared later Void to COC (or argued which one was the first hardcore/metal crossover) Personally I don’t care who was first I just care about if it’s any good. Void had an album Potion For Bad Dreams they did for Touch & Go which has never been put out but you can find it here

Government Issue – CEC Philadelphia

DC’s Government Issue from the CEC in West Philly – A rock against hunger show with Constraint (From Leigh Valley) and Electric Love Muffin. John Stabb mentions that the first song Mad At Myself is from their new album which would be The Fun Never Ends. I re-edited these videos using the GI Live Bootleg Series audio which was 100 times better than the audio from the video. The live audio is available on GI’s live Bootleg series

Nobody’s Favorite

Nobody’s Favorite from the CEC in West Philly. I’m not sure when this show was since I can’t find a flyer for it but it was with M-80’s (who I also have some video of for later) and Decontrol (that video is already up). Thanks to Dave who was the singer for sending me a couple of emails with all this info and stories below: Nobody’s Favorite had Robbie Birch who was (Richie) decontrol’s guitar player’s brother in the band. Their bass player John (Wolfinger) went on to play and record with Decontrol until his death in 1990. Their drummer was Steve Malone, who was in the marching band in high school resulting in near perfect timing on his part. He would always raz me for mucking it up. At this show the stage monitors burned out early and we relied on the sound bouncing back from the back wall of the CEC. The video also reminded me ( Rob had a big NF on his shirt) of a show at the Crypt where four guys surrounded me on Walnut street because I had a NF logo on my sleeve and thought I was in the National Front. I was like, no no I’m no fascist as I pointed to a flyer on a pole, I’m with the band. They were about to beat the piss out of me, but we all had a good laugh about it in the end. After they broke up some of the band went on to form other bands including: White Trash and Crash Happy. Hopefully I will get some White Trash audio to put up at some point.

The Dicks – Elk’s Lodge, Atlantic City

The Dicks from the Elk’s Center in Atlantic City. I don’t have a flyer for this one but I’m assuming it was the same summer as the other ones I posted so 1985. The Dicks and the Big Boys were my favorite of the Austin bands of the early 80’s. I never got to see either of them live but did see a lot of later bands (Sister Double Happiness, Bad Mutha Goose, Monkeywrench, Swine King, Scratch Acid) by members of both. They did a good mix of songs from all their releases in this set. Both sides of the Peace/War 7″ and both albums Kill From the Heart and These People. It looks like the only Dicks music available is the Alternative Tentacles comp 1980-86 It has songs from all their releases but I have no idea why they just didn’t put everything on the cd.

WKDU Band Bash October 5th 1985 (Homo Picnic, 5 Story Fall, Oblivion, Fabulous Fondas, M-Fakter)

WKDU free band bash from October 1985. There were a lot of bands at this show – most of the Video is of Homo Picnic and 5 Story Fall but there is also some of Oblivion, M Fakter, and Ambush Bugs. Apparently more bands where going to play (Dead Milkmen plus others) but the company doing the sound and/or Drexel security pulled the plug. At the end of the 2nd Homo Picnic clip there is a short interview with them. I just realized I forgot to try and figure out the song titles (if anyone knows them please add them in a comment) Also if anyone has the 5 Story Fall demo please let me know it would be great to put those up.

Thanks to Val for the video

Constraint (LVHC) – CEC Philadelphia Feb. 23, 1985

This is Constraint opening a show at the CEC with Electric Love Muffin & Government Issue. I know I saw Constraint either in the Leigh Valley or in Philly but I didn’t have much info on them so here’s a guest commentary by Eric from easysubculture If anyone can fill in the song titles please add a comment.

They were from bethlehem. my best bud dave clewell was the singer. he was later in last cry, mugface, forthright, maddog surrender, etc. (check out maddog. pretty great) [see the FOE website for lots of LVHC bands]. They had the coolest punk logo of the day back then, wings and skull and peace sign that graphically stands the test of time, and was always painted on a sheet behind them. mike and rob the guitar and bassers were 2 pretty tough dudes you did not want to fuck with. ahhh, when punk = tough kids. total bad ass older kid bethlehem kids. I forgot how much i loved CONSTRAINT. they were tough dudes and totally bethlehem. i remember being so bummed i couldn’t roadie for them to this show. one of the buddy’s of the guitar and bass player, who were a few years older than me and dave (singer and mike (drummer) wanted to kick my ass over some punker comments i made and i had to lay low for a few months when they / he was around. but anyway and all that personal teen punk drama aside, they were the best LV band at that point (1984 – 1985). rob (bass) and mike were ovo-lacto vegetarians and peace punks but they were still bad ass and intimidating like punkers used to be. ‘do-gooders with a violent streak’.

Die Kreuzen – Elk’s Lodge in Atlantic City Video

Die Kreuzen from the Elk’s Lodge in Atlantic City. Starts off with their cover of the Halloween movie theme. Then they played a mix of short fast stuff from their first self titled LP and a bunch of longer songs from my favorite Die Kreuzen album October File.
I remember seeing them at the Kennel Club around this time but it might have been 1986. Earlier I posted the audio from a much later Die Kreuzen show from the Khyber.

The Balls

I don’t have much info on the Balls. All I know is that I saw them a few times in the late 80’s and they were on Discpan Hands. But it was great to have a local band heavily influenced by the Meat Puppets. So here are their two demo tapes one from 86 & the other from 87. If anyone knows more info about the Balls please add it to the comments or email it to me.
Updated info (Thanks Bob)
Steve Maglio – guitar)
Dave Eisenhower – drums)
John Swana – bass – later it was Jim Stager (Huffamoose) and then Bill Comins
Steve Maglio and Jim Stager along with DJ Bonebrake (X) can be heard (recently) on this album.

Husker Du – Live Videos

Husker Du from the West Side Club, they played there twice but I’m pretty sure this is the April 16, 1983 show. The 84 show at the West Side was the Zen Arcade tour and at least in this video they only did a couple of Zen Arcade songs. The rest is from 7″s (In A Free Land), Land Speed Record or Everything Falls Apart. The quality of this video is a little rough at times but I thought it was worth putting up anyway.Go to Husker Du Database for a lot more info.
Thanks again to Pete at Sounds of Tomorrow for the beta tapes

The 2nd video is from City Gardens in March of 1984. Thanks to Lenny Crunch (RIP)for this video.
